Yes, yes, I know…Detroit is not in Illinois. And yes, I know, none of the vendors there were licensed in Illinois. But here’s the thing, we here at Illinois Craft Cannabis are in the business of empowering and promoting a free society. Illinois, now and in the future, will have a formal market that will lack the diversity of products along with a lacking of robust competition to allow for price easing for consumers, although the addition of 60 new ‘craft’ licences is an incredible start to bringing a wider array of high quality herb.
The new Illinois system will also be one that may have troubles with holding an event like the High Times Cannabis Cup, with seed to sale and strict tracking of products placing restrictions and difficulties with holding events where ganja and hash are in such enormous quantities, cash to hand, METRC and BioTrack nowhere to be seen.
While we do support a formal market that helps to support the systems, institutions, and infrastructure vital to a thriving civil society, we are not of the opinion that a vice tax on a plant and highly limited licensing is a proper solution to the tax and regulate question.
The cannabis cup in Michigan is a great way for anyone with an open mind to observe how cannabis can help to bring peace and happiness to a large group of people, where commerce can commence without any type of competition oft attributed to the cannabis trade in the past. We feel that anyone in Illinois should find the opportunity to visit and explore truly open markets for cannabis.
Although I only had the chance to go Sunday, highlights for my day at the cup include seeing Warren G and 2Chainz absolutely killing it on stage, the heads repping over at Gage Green Group’s booth, offering high quality solventless hash and highly sought after seeds, Ethos Genetics, getting to peep Gavita’s new LED fixture, and every single smiling face and friendly gesture given to one another with every joint and blunt passed to the next.
With that, enjoy a few photos of the festivities!
