Late morning Friday, November 15th, 2019, the first round of Adult use dispensary assignments were given to participating medical cannabis dispensary applicants.
An ordinance passed in September, 2019 laid out the first measure to regulate adult use cannabis in Chicago.
The ordinance detailed a plan to set out seven zones to be assigned 14 total dispensaries per zone, with the first round of assignments being open only to existing medical cannabis dispensaries.
Today, seven medical cannabis dispensaries already operating in compliance with the Medical Cannabis Pilot Program (MCPP) were assigned to each zone via lottery. A second round to assign up to 14 total dispensaries in each zone will commence in May, 2020.

All dispensaries will be subject to zoning board evaluation and be required to be located 500+ feet from schools and not be located in residential zones or in buildings where residential units exist.
